Divorce

A divorce you can see your way through

Most people come to us not knowing what the first step is, let alone the last. We'll show you both, and what each one costs.

If you and your spouse agree on most things, an uncontested divorce can be finished on paper and by video, without a courtroom. If you don't agree, we can try mediation first, and go to court only on the questions that are left. Either way, each stage has its own flat fee, so you can decide on the next one when you get there.

Every divorce fee covers

  • Drafting and filing the petition or response

  • The financial disclosures

  • Calls and emails along the way

  • The settlement agreement or judgment

  • A plain-English summary of what you've signed

Step by step

How a divorce moves

  1. 01

    A first call

Thirty minutes, free, by video or phone. We listen, and tell you which path fits.

  2. 02

    A written quote

A flat fee for the first stage, with filing fees listed separately.

  3. 03

    Filing and disclosure

We file, serve or accept papers, and gather the financial picture together.

  4. 04

    Agreement or mediation

We work toward a settlement, with a mediator if that helps.

  5. 05

    Court, only if needed

If questions remain, a new flat fee for the hearing or trial, quoted first.

  6. 06

    The judgment

The court signs it, and we send you a summary of what it means.

Questions we hear

How long does a divorce take?

An uncontested divorce often takes a few months from filing, mostly waiting for the court. A contested case takes longer, and we'll give you a realistic range on the first call.

Do we both need lawyers?

We can represent only one of you. In an uncontested case your spouse may choose not to hire anyone, and we'll make sure they know we aren't their lawyer.

What if we agree on everything?

Then the uncontested fee covers the paperwork, the disclosures and the final judgment, usually with no court appearance at all.

Can we start with mediation?

Yes. Celia mediates divorces, and if mediation leaves a few questions open, the rest of the case can carry on from there.
