Child and spousal support

Support numbers you can follow, line by line

Child support comes from a state worksheet. We'll fill it in with you on screen, so no number in it is a mystery.

We set child support in a divorce or custody case, and change it later when a job is lost, income rises or a child's needs change. We also handle spousal support: whether it fits your case, for how long, and how much. If you're paying or receiving support set years ago, we can tell you on the first call whether a change is worth asking for.

Every support fee covers

  • Calls and emails along the way

Questions we hear

How is child support worked out?

From both parents' incomes, parenting time and a few costs like health insurance and childcare, using the state's worksheet.

My income dropped. Can support change?

Often, yes, if the change is large enough. Ask soon: a change usually starts from when it's requested, not when the income dropped.

Is spousal support automatic?

No. It depends on the length of the marriage, each person's income and what each gave up. We'll tell you where your case likely sits.

Can you collect support that isn't being paid?

Yes. We can ask the court to enforce the order, and point you to the state's free enforcement program when that's quicker.
