How it works

One step at a time, and you'll always see the next one

You don't need to come to an office, and you don't need to know the words. Here's how it goes, in order.

  1. 01

Step 1: Book a free call

Online or by phone. Thirty minutes by video, or by phone if you'd rather not be on camera.

  2. 02

Step 2: Tell us what's happening

Who's in the family, what's changed, and what worries you most. No documents yet.

  3. 03

Step 3: Get a written quote

A flat fee for the first stage, with filing fees listed separately, in your inbox the same week.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Sign and begin

An engagement letter by e-signature. From here, your lawyer has your back and you have their direct line.

  5. 05

Step 5: Work through it together

Drafts to read, short video meetings, and a list of what happens next at the top of every email.

  6. 06

    Step 6: Close the chapter

The final order or judgment, a plain summary of it, and a call if anything comes up later.

By video

What a video meeting is like

Most of our clients never visit the office. They meet us from a kitchen table, a parked car or a lunch break.

We send a link that opens in your browser, with nothing to install. You can turn your camera off, bring a friend, or step away if a child walks in. We share drafts on screen and go through them together, and you get a written summary after every meeting. If you'd rather sit across a table, our Division Street office is open by appointment.

  • A link that opens in your browser

  • Camera optional

  • A written summary after every meeting

  • The office, if you'd rather

Questions about meeting by video

Do I ever have to come in?

Not usually. Some hearings are in person, and we'll meet you at the courthouse. Everything else can happen by video or phone.

I live far from Portland. Can you still help?

Yes. We work with families anywhere in Oregon, and many courts now hold hearings by video too.

What if I can't talk freely at home?

Tell us, and we'll find a time and a way that's safe: a call from work, a car, or a friend's phone.

How do I send documents?

Through a secure upload link we send after you've signed. Please don't email bank statements or anything private before then.

A free 30-minute call, by video or phone, at a time that works for you.

A first call doesn't make us your lawyers; a signed engagement letter does.
